The annual report of the Supreme Court offers a comprehensive insight into the important and varied work of the Court throughout 2022 which saw:

  • 145 applications for leave lodged
  • 148 applications for leave resolved
  • 55 full appeals resolved
  • 80 judgments delivered
  • 3 requests to the Court of Justice of the European Union for a preliminary ruling

In his foreword, Chief Justice O’Donnell highlights some key events in the Court’s calendar, including important bilateral engagements with the UK Supreme Court, the German Federal Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Canada and the European Court of Human Rights. The Chief Justice also outlines the significance of 2022 as the centenary of the Irish Free State Constitution and the occupation of the Four Courts and recalls some of the commemorative events which took place to mark that period in Irish history.

A selection of case summaries, along with the requests for preliminary rulings, can be found in the report.
